That looks pretty cool, but I can't help but thinking that I'd love to see a Cruzbike-like tandem (where the captain drives the front wheel and the stoker drives the back wheel).

With that setup, the two riders wouldn't have to have the same cadence and the rear rider could choose their own gear…

Fun idea but it looks terribly unsafe to me. The captain's seat will apply significant load to the top tube, in a spot where loads were not intended, and this will likely cause the top tube to break. And forks are designed to handle normal forces when facing correctly — forward — not when facing the wrong way — backwards — as shown in this picture. I expect the fork will break when the tandem hits a bump at speed, resulting in terrible injuries for the riders. – RM
